After graduating from journalism school at the University of Kansas, Carla Marie Rupp promptly hopped into her light blue convertible and drove to California.
There she worked for the Hollywood Reporter and other newspapers, attended Hollywood parties, and met many celebrities. But although she enjoyed life in California, she was still a Kansas farm-girl at heart and, at times, would return home from exotic locations to drive the truck on the family farm during her dad’s wheat harvest or help her mom cook.
In subsequent years Carla Rupp was a newspaper reporter in Kansas and California, wrote for Broadcast Week, Travel Weekly, Travel Trade, Editor & Publisher, and the New York Post. She has also worked for the Associated Press (AP) and United Features Syndicate. As copy editor for the Wichita Eagle newspaper in Kansas during the Woodstock Festival, she remembers writing headlines while wishing she was instead at the event itself.
In addition to being a travel journalist, Carla also plays several musical instruments and has a M.A. degree in musicology and music history. She currently lives in New York City.
