Located on the northern Caribbean coast of Colombia, Cartagena is a mesmerizing little city where buildings flaunt a hundred Crayola hues and flowers cascade from balconies that jut out above narrow lanes. It’s beautiful and romantic.

Old Cartagena has plenty of good hotels, as well as modern beachfront hotels in Bocagrande, a narrow peninsula within walking distance of the old town.

These photos of Cartagena, Colombia show you the things to do when you visit this beautiful, old city. See that women in the photo above? PS – it’s also very affordable and close to the U.S., closer to Miami, in fact, than some popular Caribbean islands. I spent three days there, which turned out to be the perfect amount of time.
