W ho would guess that little Andorra – nestled high in the Pyrenees straddling Spain and France – is one of the oldest countries in Europe? The nation traces its history back to the eight century when Charlemagne set it up to help protect his beloved France from the Islamic Moors to the south. It finally became an independent principality in the early 1990s.
Today it’s better known for summer hiking, winter skiing and duty-free shopping all year long, much of it in the capital of Andorra la Vella. In addition to some of the best skiing in the Pyrenees, Andorra also boasts a large thermal spa and some of the most spectacular scenery in this part of Europe.

The Caldea Thermal Spa
High up in the Pyrennes, Andorra not only boasts great skiing, it also has Europe’s largest spa. Looking somewhat like an avant-garde cathedral from the exterior, some find it spectacular and soothing, while others compare it to an expensive water park sans kids.
